Our Community Fridge is a community food resource, which redistributes surplus fresh food, which is primarily donated to us by local supermarkets and retail businesses.
In 2020, we added a Community Pantry to our service, which provides dried/tinned food.
As the project continues to grow, we want to engage a greater range of food businesses and community organisations, to reduce food waste across Swansea, while benefiting the wider community.
Since opening to the public in early 2019, Swansea Community Fridge has redistributed over 23 tonnes of food that would otherwise have gone to waste.
We are proud of the part we have played in feeding the people of Swansea during the Covid-19 crisis, which required us to remodel our service to enable it to operate safely and develop new ways of working, to respond to the unique problems presented by national lockdown.
We are looking to recruit a committed team member to help us deliver on our ambitions for the project. The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the service, as well as contributing to the growth, development and sustainability of the project.
You may have a retail, food or hospitality background, or you may not. Whatever your background, you will need to be a problem solver, have excellent customer service and strong relationship building skills and build trust and credibility easily.
This role requires an energetic, positive, flexible and organized individual who can take responsibility and multitask to maximise opportunities and deliver results.
Flexibility around working hours is essential to enable the collection of food from retailers and the willingness to drive a small van.
The role by its very nature will involve some manual handling (primarily lifting and moving food crates) etc.
If you are passionate about providing a great service to our community and believe you have the skills to ensure food is available for everyone, we would like to hear from you.
