About our Charity, Goleudy
Goleudy is a charity that prevents homelessness by providing housing, creating
opportunities, and tackling poverty and social exclusion. Our job is to improve the lives of
people who are threatened with, or experience homelessness, a housing crisis, or mental
health (MH) issues and trauma.
We have been operating for 47 years and cover 4 local authority areas.

About the Mental Health and Substance Misuse Support Worker Role
Goleudy’s mental health and substance misuse support teams provide a unique service for
individuals living with or recovering from mental health issues who are Care managed. We
also have a team in supported accommodation that supports people who have experienced
homelessness and substance misuse. At our Willow (registered with the Care Inspectorate
Wales) and ROADS projects, we offer safe and secure accommodation with support tailored
to the needs of the individual.

Duties of a Mental Health and Substance Misuse Support Worker

As a mental health and substance misuse support worker, you will assist clients with:
● Maintaining a tenancy
● Budgeting and Benefit Entitlement
● Daily living skills
● Managing emotional, mental and physical health
● Managing medication (in Willow Project)
● Employment / Volunteering / Educational opportunities
● Social opportunities
● Support networks/ relationships

Required skills for a Mental Health and Substance Misuse Support
Worker

● Positive attitude towards personal resilience and working with people who face
multiple disadvantages/exclusions
● Organised with excellent time management skills and able to work flexibly across
several project types and client groups
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and
explain complex issues succinctly to clients, colleagues, and managers
● Knowledge or background of working with people in mental health, housing, support,
social care, health, education or other voluntary sector settings.
● Interest in mental health, substance use, criminal justice, housing-related support
services and the wider social issues of homelessness, health, and benefit/welfare
system.
● Understanding of the legislation governing GDPR, health and safety and
safeguarding.
● Have a Social Care Wales Registration.
